There has been considerable building activity in the city during
the past year, many of the edifices put up being of an elegant
and substantial character. Among them we may enumerate the spacious
brick depot, the Home for Friendless Women, the First Presbyterian
Church (completed); the Baptist Church (completed); Saint Mary's
Academy (completed); Maplewood Seminary (new wing added); German
Catholic Church (interior completed); Westminster Church (walls
built and roofed in); Judge Latta's new block of stores, corner
of Delaware and Fifth street; General Larimer's new block of stores
on Fifth street, South Leavenworth; Mr. Simon Abeles' handsome
residence in South Leavenworth; Mr. E. T. Carr's first class dwelling
on Fourth street; Mr. E. H. Durfee's elegant house on the Esplanade;
Mr. H. C. Akin's residence in South Leavenworth; Messrs. Farrel
Bro.'s spacious brick store on Delaware street; Major Foote's
block of stores on Fifth street, between Miami and Seneca; besides
a large number of stores and dwelling houses, which we have not
space to enumerate.
