The following information was transcribed from "The History of Anderson County, Kansas, From Its First Settlement To the Fourth of July, 1876", by W.A. Johnson, Chairman of Historical Society, published by Kauffman & Iler, Garnett Plaindealer, 1877.

The names, military ranks, and company names are as they appear in the original text. If someone has two ranks listed, this means he was promoted from the first to the second. If the promotion was to a position in another company, that company is listed in brackets after the rank. If a date is given, that is also given in brackets after the rank. If you don't know what company your ancestor served in, please check the alphabetical list.

According to this book, 420 men volunteered from Anderson County, and of that number 56 were killed or died of disease while in the service.
