Athol, a thriving little town of Smith county, is a station on the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific R. R., in Lane township, 8 miles west of Smith Center, the county seat. It has a bank, a grain elevator, a money order postoffice with two rural routes, some good general stores and is a shipping point of considerable importance. The population in 1910 was 350.
