Henry M. Mueller, a prominent real estate dealer and insurance agent, who has been actively identified for many years with the commercial life of the city of Hanover, Kan., and who is so capably and acceptably filling the position of police judge of that city, was born on his father's farm in Washington county, on February 24, 1871, a son of J. H. Edward and Annie (Kirch) Mueller, a sketch of whom precedes this article.

Henry M. Mueller obtained his education in the public schools of his native county, and subsequently entered the employ of his father, in the Mueller mill on the Little Blue river, where he remained for eleven years. He then established himself in the grain, produce, stock and poultry business at Hanover. In 1903 he discontinued the grain and stock features of his business and confined his efforts to handling produce and remained in this field of endeavor until 1911, when he established his present business, that of real estate and insurance. In 1900 he organized the Hanover Telephone Company, of which he was a large stockholder and manager. This interest he disposed of in 1903. He has been an active and influential factor in the political life of his county, and a consistent advocate of the principles and policies of the Republican party. He has served as a member of the council of the city of Hanover for the past ten years, was elected to the lower house of the State legislature in 1904, serving during the session of 1905, and was honored by appointment as chairman of the committee on engrossing. During this service he was concerned in legislation of importance, and was considered by his colleagues as an active and energetic member of his party therein. In 1912 he was elected to the office of police judge of Hanover, and also to that of justice of the peace. His service in these two offices has been creditable to himself and his constituents. Mr. Mueller has attained the Scottish Rite degrees in Masonry, and he is an active and influential member of the Lutheran church.

On September 9, 1899, Mr. Mueller was united in marriage with Miss Elenora C. Engle, a daughter of John R. and Elizabeth Engle, who was born in Otoe county, Nebraska, where she was reared and educated. Her parents became residents of the State of Kansas in the early '90s. Her mother is deceased, and her father retired from active business. Mrs. Mueller is a member of the Lutheran church, and takes an active part in the work of her home congregation. She is also a member of the Eastern Star.
