John J. Barclay

JOHN J. BARCLAY. One of the prominent men professionally at Grinnell, Kansas, is Dr. John J. Barclay. He was born at Wheeler, Alabama, September 16, 1870, attended college at Florence, Alabama, and Bethany, West Virginia, and studied medicine at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating M. D. in 1894. He practiced medicine abroad at Tangier, Morocco, where he was sent in 1894 as Vice Consul General of the United States. On returning to America he took a post graduate course at Jefferson Medical College 1897. In 1898 he came to Grinnell, Kansas, where for over twenty years he has commanded a large practice and prestige as physician and surgeon. He is district surgeon of the Union Pacific Railroad, also president of the Exchange State Bank at Gove, Kansas.

Doctor Barclay married in Gove, Kansas, Mary S. Royer, daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth (Shamberger) Royer. Doctor and Mrs. Barclay have two children, John Judson, Jr., born June 29, 1910, and Royer C., born October 9, 1913.
