Dick Wilson

DICK WILSON, cashier of the Citizens State Bank of Norcatur, was born at Zionville in Grant County, Kansas, June 11, 1891. He is of Scotch ancestry, his great-grandfather having come from Scotland and settled in South Carolina. The grandfather, Michael Wilson, was born in North Carolina in 1802, was a planter and slave owner in South Carolina, served in the Confederate army during the Civil war and late in life came west and settled at Zionville, Kansas, where he died in 1890, a year before the birth of his grandson Dick.

M. M. Wilson, father of Dick Wilson, was born in North Carolina in 1838, lived there to the age of eighteen, and then came north to Mooresville, Indiana, where he was in the cattle business and where he married, and in 1884 moved his family and fortunes to Parsons, Kansas, and from there to Grant County in 1885. He was a successful cattle rancher and merchant, served as postmaster at Zionville, and finally retired and moved to Long Beach, California, where he died December 17, 1917. He was a democrat in politics and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and a charter member of the Masonic fraternity at Mooresville, Indiana. His second wife was Miss Greggs, who was born in Indiana in 1851 and died in Grant County, Kansas, July 10, 1891, just a month after the birth of her youngest child, Dick. She was also the mother of the following children: Lewis, a national bank examiner living at Hutchinson, Kansas, and Walter, a general merchant at New Ulysses, Kansas.

Dick Wilson attended the rural schools in Grant County, the Reno County High School at Nickerson, and for three years was a student in Nickerson College. At the age of twenty-one, leaving school, he entered the Lakin State Bank, accepting the humblest position in that institution, and was there two years, during that time acquainting himself with many details of practical and theoretical banking. In September, 1916, he came to Norcatur as vice president of the Citizens State Bank, but since January, 1918, has been its cashier. He is also vice president and director of the Kanona State Bank. He is affiliated with the Knights and Ladies of Security at Lakin, the Kansas Fraternal Citizens, the Modern Woodmen of America and Ancient Order of United Workmen at Norcatur and the Masonic Lodge at Lakin. In politics, he is a democrat.

In September, 1914, at Plevna, Kansas, Mr. Wilson married Miss Hazel Fishback, daughter of J. E. and Rose (Cole) Fishback, well known people of Plevna. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson have one child, James Robert, born June 7, 1916.
