Obituary of SARAH R. CRAIN |
Sarah R. Crain was born February 4, 1837, in Washington County, Illinois and
died September 4, 1912 in Labette County, Kansas, aged 75 years and 6 months.
She was united in marriage with Washington F. Crain in Washington County,
Illinois, July 27, 1854. To this union was born eleven children, six of whom
with their father, preceded her to a better world. Her husband died in the state
of Missouri in 1877. After his death, she with her family of little children
moved to Illinois where she resided two years and then with her family moved to
Kansas where she resided until her death, which occurred at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. John Bray, near Labette, Kansas. She leaves three sisters and five children to mourn their loss. The children are Marvel W. Crain of Waputo, Wash., Harrison G. of Mulberry, Kans., John Franklin and Edward D. of Pittsburg, Kans., and Mrs. J. W. Bray of Labette. All the children except Marvel were with her in her last sickness. In the death of Aunt Sally Crain as she was affectionately called, Labette County loses another old and respected citizen, having gone through the pioneer days. She realized the hardships and responsibility of raising her family and can truly be called an old soldier. She was converted and united with the M. E. church when a young girl and still adheres to the faith, although of late years she has been in such poor health she could not attend church services as she otherwise would have done. Her remains were taken to Mulberry, Kans., and after short services at the cemetery were laid to rest. The family wish to thank all the kind friends who assisted them in the last sickness and death of their dear mother. -Mrs. J. W. Bray and family, Edward D. Crain, Harrison G. Crain, John F. Crain. |
