Funeral Card of DAVID B. DUMLER

David B. Dumler, son of Johann George and Maria Dorothea (Brase) Dumler, was born August 12, 1890, at Blumenfeld, Russia. He departed this life on March 13, 1972, at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 1 day.
He came to America with his parents in June of 1892 as an infant and they migrated to the Russell area. This has been his home since that time. On September 30, 1921, he was united in marriage to Hildegarde Mortgenstern and they lived on the family farm south of Russell. This union was blessed with one son, Richard, and three daughters, LeNora, Dava, and Donna. In 1930 they moved to Russell to make their home but Dave continued his farming and this gave him a great deal of satisfaction.

Most of Dave's friends referred to him as "Fiddling Dave" , a name he acquired because of his deep love of the violin and his ability to play that fine instrument as well as make and repair them. His love of music was second only to his love of farming and the planting and harvesting of his wheat crops. Many of his days were spent totally fascinated with the activities of the farm and he could come home completely exhausted, dirty and hungry after a long day but always with a smile of satisfaction knowing his day was spend near the good earth he so deeply loved.
His spare time was occupied with his music and the community of Russell was fortunate to have a person with his ability to repair nearly all types of instruments, and he did just that for schools and many individuals in the Russell area. He also spent many hours playing the dulcimer he built himself. One of his favorite tunes on his dulcimer was the song "Just As I Am." His music gave him the relaxation he needed after a long hard day at the farm. Many of the area people will remember him for his ability so aply demonstrated at many of the fiddling contests throughout the United States, and also his judging of these contests.
David was brought to the Lutheran faith as an infant in baptism and by confirmation on April 10, 1904. He continued his association with the Lutheran Church through his membership in St. John Lutheran Church at Russell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Jacob, and Fred; two sisters, Mrs. Kathrine Strecker and Miss Mollie Dumler; and one grandson, Steffen Miller.

Those who survive to mourn his passing include his wife, Hilda, of the home; and his son, Richard, of Russell; his three daughters, Mrs. LeNora Miller and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Ares, both of Russell, and Mrs. Marvin (Dava) Simonton of Winfield; 8 grandchildren; several other relatives and a host of friends.
