Obituary of DOROTHY GIBBONS
Dorothy Gibbons, 86, died February 13, 2002, at Hospice Residential Care Center, Hutchinson.

She was born June 15, 1915, at Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Horace B. and Edith Smith Van Denberge.

A resident of Hutchinson since 1960, moving from Russell, she graduated from Lincoln High School, Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1933, attended the University of Nebraska and graduated from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan.

She taught four years in Detroit. In Russell she worked for Dufek Oil Co., and was a substitute teacher. She taught 19 years in Hutchinson at Lincoln Elementary School, retiring in 1979.

She belonged to First Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon and elder, was a life member of Presbyterian Women, the Kansas Retired Teachers Association, Hutchinson Area Retired Teachers Association, the American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Kappa, and the Women's Civic Center. She was a life member of the Reno County Historical Society and was involved with Girl Scouts and Sunflower Day Care Center.

On Nov. 22, 1941, she married Thomas J. "Red" Gibbons at Detroit. He died July 6, 1989.

Survivors include: a daughter, Dottie Brenner, Arvada, Colorado and two cousins.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Tim Soule presiding. Family will receive friends after the service in the church parlor.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday February 14 and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Private Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to the Church Organ Fund, or Hutchinson Public Library, in care of the mortuary.
