He was baptized in early infancy, and after becoming of age, was confirmed in the American Lutheran Church at Milberger.  During World War II he entered the service on Nov. 16, 1943, earned a technical sergeant rating and was discharged on April 4, 1946.

On June 16, 1940, he married Minnie Boxberger at the church in Milberger, They had four children.

Most of his life he was spent in oil field work and he owned and operated the Boxberger Tank Service.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the Elks and Eagles Lodges.

Survivors include the widow; the two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Ann Standley, Mrs. Loretta Goodheart, and two sons, Ronald and Donald, all of Russell; his mother, Mrs. Mollie Boxberger, Great Bend; two grandsons, Bryan and Bradley Standley; two brothers, Clarence, of Russell, and Leo, of Oakley; four sisters, Mrs. Tabea Dumler, Russell, Mrs. Irene Ehrlich, Great Bend, Mrs. Rosie Niedens, Hoisington, and Dorothy Niedens, Denver, Colo.

Preceding him in death were his father and one grandson, Douglas Goodheart.

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 6 from the Deines Funeral Home at 10 a.m. and from St. John Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Rev. R. G. Sedo officiating. Mrs. Howard Vladar was organist and Ed Sewel soloist. Hymns were "So Nimm Den Meina Henda" and "Abide with Me".
Pallbearers were Albert Drake, Stanley Boom, L. M. Boatright, Jule Radke, Joe Werth and Delmar Keil.
Honorary Pallbearers were Ten Crawford, Roger Mighell, E. E. McCulley, Frank Murphy, Lonnie King, Claude Blakesley, Bob Barnes, Carl McCord, Curtis Mudd, Verrel Brack, Sam Neil, Harold Bishop and Chet Strecker.

Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. The William Roe Post, American Legion, conferred Military honors. The Deines Funeral Home was in charge.
