Funeral Card of ERNEST RUBEN DIETZ
Ernest Ruben Dietz, son of Ferdinand and Pauline (Karst) Dietz, was born August 1, 1911, in Russell County, Kansas. His death occurred on September 10, 1982, in the Penrose Hospital at Colorado Springs, Colorado, after several months of failing health. His age was 71 years, 1 month and 9 days.

Ernest lived his early life in the Bender Hill area, southwest of Russell, received his education in the Bender Hill school and on September 29, 1935, was united in marriage to Agnes Gideon at the Bender Hill Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two children, LaVerne and Cindy.

During his early married life Ernest lived on a farm in the Bender Hill area and occupied his time with the many and varied activities of a farmer and stockman. In 1948 he moved from the family farm to Russell and was employed by the City of Russell on the street department for a time before transferring to the park department. He retired from his city job in 1976 and since that time had been custodian at the Home State Bank and worked actively at that job until just the past few weeks when his health no longer permitted him to work.

During his life in Russell he was a volunteer fireman for the Russell-Grant Fire Department which he helped organize in 1957 and was quite proud of his service to the community.

Ernest was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell and was an active and participating member of the congregation. His early Christian life began with his baptism and confirmation in the Lutheran faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Survivors are his wife, Agnes of the home in Russell; children, LaVerne of Russell and Mrs. Laren (Cindy) Haselhorst of Gorham; and his grandchildren, Perry, Dale, Grant and Ward Dietz and Jarod and Jodi Haselhorst. Other survivors are brothers, Emil and Paul of Russell and a sister, Mrs. Henry (Tabea) Maier of Otis, Kansas, several other relatives and a host of friends.
