(Notice of Funeral)

John L. Bender, the son of Henry and Katherina (Lohman) Bender, was born Nov. 25, 1898, in Winterset Township, Russell County, Kan., and died June 4, 1966, in Russell City Hospital, Russell. His age was 67 years, 6 months, and 10 days.

He was baptized in early infancy and after becoming of age, was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was and remained a charter member of the Evangelical Trinity Lutheran Church in the Bender Hill community.
On June 24, 1917, he married Caroline Morgenstern. This marriage was blessed with eight children, one of whom died in infancy, He spent his lifetime in the farming community, where he was born, and was an active member of community life.

Survivors include the widow, Caroline Bender, of the home; seven children, Mrs. Ben (Mathilda) Streck, Gorham; Mrs. August (Elsie) Boger, Wichita; Mrs. John (Viola) Barrattie, Wichita; Clarence Bender, Russell, Mrs. LaVerne (Josephine) Ehrlich, Russell; Mrs. Paul (Alice) Wagner, Otis, and Leroy Bender, of the home; a brother, Henry Bender, Jr., Russell; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Stoll and Mrs. Lizzie Radke, both of WaKeeney; 16 grandchildren, one great grandchild and many other relatives and friends.

A brother, August Bender, preceded him in death only three weeks prior to his death, on May 13.

Funeral services were held June 6 in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Bender Hill, with Rev. H. Vomath, officiating. Music was provided by the church choir and congregation, accompanied by Helen and Viola Schwein, organists.
Pallbearers were Ted Karst, Elroy Dietz, Sigmund Morgenstern, Doran DeWald, Milton Bender, and Herbert Bender.
Burial was in the Milberger (Morgenstern) Cemetery with Deines Brothers Funeral Home, Russell, in charge.
