Obituary of JOSEPH M. "JOEY" MAHONEY, JR. |
Joseph M. "Joey" Mahoney Jr., 57, died April 1 at Russell
Regional Hospital in Russell. He was born Feb. 26, 1943, at Russell, the son of Joseph Martin and Maria C. Pivonka Mahoney. He graduated from high school in Russell and received his BS degree in education at Fort Hays State College. A resident of Russell for most of his life, he was owner/manager of the John Deere agency in Russell, was involved in the petroleum industry and recently was quality control manager at King of the Road in Russell. Mahoney was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion, Elks Lodge and was a Veterans of Foreign Wars life member. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during peacetime. Survivors include one daughter, Traci Backus of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Tim Mahoney of Russell and John Mahoney of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Mary Ann Mahoney of Denver, Colo., Marj Dusay of New York City, N.Y., and Kathy Dunn of Guymon, Okla.; and one grandchild. Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Charles Steier officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Russell. Friends may call from 6-9 tonight and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Post Rock Chapter, Wild Turkey Federation, in care of the funeral home. |
