Obituary of LENA BENDER

Lena Bender, 89, died Saturday night, June 12 (1982), at Russell City Hospital.

Born Lena Bender, March 15, 1893, daughter of Henry and Lena (Heckman) Bender in Russell County, she married Henry Bender, Jr., Oct. 31, 1912, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Milberger. He died July 22, 1975. She had been a Russell resident since 1949.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Russell.

Survivors are: three sons, Herbert, Russell; Albert, Salina; and Hubert, Great Bend; two daughters, Leah Stoffel, and Mrs. Daniel (Helen) Maier, both of Hays; a half-sister, Martha Strecker, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a step-sister, Carie Folkerts, Larned; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Herman Frerichs, Burial will be at Trinity Bender Hill Cemetery south of Russell. Pohlman's Mortuary is in charge. Memorials to the church or the cemetery.
