Obituary of RHODA ANN DAVID |
Rhoda Ann David, 105, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001,
at St. Joseph Retirement Center, Manhattan. She was born September 8, 1896, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the daughter of Freeman and Augusta Skiles Archer. She came to Kansas in a covered wagon when she was three months old. She grew up in the Norton County area, graduated from rural schools and attended McPherson Central College. She worked for her father's merchantile store in Densmore. On June 12, 1918, she married Alfred David at her parent's home. They farmed, worked and lived in Norton County until 1951 when they moved to Wichita to work for Boeing and own and manage rental properties. She was a food service employee at Boeing. She moved to Manhattan in 1989. She was a charter member of the Free Methodist Church and an active member of the Riverside Free Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; a daughter, Mildred Gray; brothers, Guildie, John, Harvey and Roy Archer; and sisters, Dora Archer and Matilda Broom. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Leonard David of Wichita, and Robert and Ivalee David of Russell; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Leo Wendling of Manhattan; nine grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were Saturday at Cochran Mortuary, Wichita. A memorial has been established with Hospice, Inc., 313 S. Market, Wichita 67202. |
