Sheriff Clarence Frieden captured a second big liquor haul last Friday evening after trailing a car said to be driven by Roy A. Whitney of Coldwater to near the Pratt county line at Isabel. Over 500 pints of liquor were in the car, including whiskey, gin, alcohol, and other varieties. Whitney is alleged to have made deliveries in Medicine Lodge on Friday evening. He is 35 years old, and is reputed to have been running liquor in this section of the state for some time. He was driving, Sheriff Frieden stated a Buick coupe, with overload springs, evidently designed for a transport car.He was held in the county jail, charged with possession and transportation, and pleaded guilty Saturday before Justice T. J. Willard. Sentence had not been pronounced yet Wednesday morning.
Other recent arrests made by Sheriff Frieden include Pete Wilson of Medicine Lodge, charged with possession of liquor and given a fine of $100 and costs, and a 90 day jail sentence; Bruce Adams, charged with stealing a bicycle and sentenced to 30 days in jail; Paul Parsons of Lake City, charged with possessions of liquor; sentence not executed; and Ben Williams of Hazelton, re-arrested on new charges after having been out on bond awaiting trial on a previous charge of obtaining money under false pretenses.
