Topic: James A WHITE descendants..seeking
From: Janet Nelson
Date: Saturday, November 30, 2002 09:02 AM

WHITE/CHASE/BEAN/PHILLIPS/T__EWELL: My great grandfather James A WHITE married second, Mattie BECKER. They had eight children. When James died in 1917 at Fort Scott, his obituary listed his married daughters only by their spouses' names, so I do not know who married whom. Therefore, am seeking any descendants of the following: Carl CHASE of Joplin Mo in 1917 (I found a Carl Frederick CHASE buried 1946 in Cherokee City Crawford Co KS cemetery listing.); AC BEAN of Ottawa KS in 1917; Robert PHILLIPS of Cherokee KS in 1917; The youngest daughter, Catherine WHITE married Gene Allen TEWELL after 1917 who was a school principal in Mulberry KS at time of wedding, but moving to Caney KS as principal the next year. Unfortunately the wedding clipping was not dated. Do not know where or when James' wife, Mattie, died. She was living in Bourbon County when Catherine married.

Topic: Ingraham,Bain
From: Taleah Wilkinson
Date: Sunday, October 06, 2002 12:38 AM

I am looking for information on Charles P. Ingraham Jr. and his wife Cornelia Bain Ingraham, I believe that the family was in Bourbon County, Kansas in abt. 1875 as their grandson Fredrick M. Ingraham was according to his obit., born near Ft. Scott, Kansas. His mother C. Margaret Ingraham b. Mar.1859 was not married at the time of his birth and the only name that was given for his father was the last name of Cravens. His mother had 8 siblings Charles E. b. 1865 in Ill., Clarence C. b. 1866, the others we do not have the names for. The family left Ill., we believe about 1872 and headed to Fort Scott, (Bourbon County) were Fred was born and then in sometime after 1880 the family then moved on to Dade County, Mo. which is about 65 miles from Ft. Scott. As Margaret married George W. Palmer in July of 1883, sometime after 1884 they moved back to Kansas as as the 1900 Census shows them to be in Kingman, Ks., with the oldest son Israel born 1884 in Mo. and the second Earl born in Ks. Charles E. is found in the 1900 Jasper County Census with his wife who was from Ks. and Charles Jr., Cornelia and Clarence in the 1900 Dade County, Census, don't know how long for sure the family was in Bourbon County, but the first record of them being in Dade County is the marriage of Margaret to George Palmer.

There are listed in the "Footprints of Bourbon County Families" book, a: JOHN VAN SICKLE & MARTHA STEVENSON; THOMAS JEFFERSON "T. J." VAN SICKLE; and a VINCENT VAN SICKLE. Do any of these sound familiar? John Van Sickle, was born: 25 Dec 1829 in Illinois, and his parents are unknown. Martha Ann Stevenson was born: 3 Sep 1838 at Xenia, Greene, Ohio. Her parents were: SAMUEL STEVENSON & ELIZABETH SEE. John & Martha were married: 4 Jul 1858 in Bourbon County, Kansas. They were parents of three children, all of whom died quite young. John, along with his father-in-law, staked out an 80 acre claim next to each other in Franklin Twp., Bourbon, Kansas. They staked out the southwest corner of their claim, laid out a town site, and it became the town of Xenia (never incorporated), in Bourbon County, Kansas. They opened their first store in Xenia, and some of their first customers were Indians who traded their blankets, beads, and trinkets for food and supplied. When the post office was established, John became the first postmaster. John joined the Union Army at the outbreak of the Civil War, and was made "captain". While home on leave, he joined a posse that went after horse thieves near Mapleton (Bourbon County). Since he was an Officer, he was told to take the lead, and was killed with the first shot fired. He died: June 10, 1863, and was buried beside his father-in-law in the "Stevenson Cemetery".
Martha remarried on: June 1, 1865 to JOSEPH R. SMITH. To them were born 5 children. Hope this may help you.

Topic: Josiah Stewart's parents?
From: Danny Hitchcock
Date: Saturday, September 21, 2002 04:25 PM

Siblings JOHN, JOSIAH, & SARAH STEWART were allegedly born in South Carolina ca. 1797-1810, and married siblings from the LONG family in Tennessee [Greene Co.?]. JOHN married ELIZABETH LONG, JOSIAH married SARAH LONG, and SARAH married GEORGE LONG. The parents of the LONG kids were WILLIAM OTHO LONG and RUTHY GRAHAM. The three STEWART/LONG families migrated through Tennessee, into Illinois, possibly down through Kentucky, and ended up...for Miller and Green Counties in Missouri. ELIZABETH died in Miller County fairly soon after having son WILLIAM STEWART, JOHN remarried and died soon after, and the families migrated to Kansas. JOSIAH's clan ended up around Ft. Scott in Bourbon County, KS, and JOHN's family ultimately landed in Montgomery County, KS. JOSIAH was born 8 January 1808 and died in Bourbon County. 27 July 1889. WILLIAM STEWART, who married REBECCA JANE EUBANK SMITH in Miller County, MO, is my gr-gr-grandfather. SO! The question is: Does anyone have a clue who the parents of JOHN, JOSIAH, and SARAH STEWART were?
