Dakota Whitaker and Sylvia Swain, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Dakota Thomas Whitaker. He was born Aug. 6, 2002. He weighed eight pounds, seven ounces and was 18 inches long. He has a brother, Daniel Dakota Whitaker, Emporia, and a sister, India Alexandria Swain Whitaker of Lawrence.

Maternal grandparents are Karen and David Swain, McPherson. Great-grand- mother is Mrs. Bridget Diehl, Hays. Paternal grandparents are Harry and LuBeth Whitaker. Great-grandparents are E.V and Jeannine Cooper and Tom Whitaker. Great-great- grandmother is Mildred North.
