GOVERNMENT SURVEYOR FOR INDIAN TERRITORY

John R. Horner was born in Hancock County, Ohio in 1857. In 1873 he and Alice Clymer were married, they came to Chase County, in 1875 to make their home.

Mr. Horner was a Civil War veteran and a member Of Grand Army of Republic, Post No. 15 of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. After the Civil War, he became a Government surveyor, where he had a large experience as Government surveyor of Indian Territory. On November 7, 1889 he was elected Chase County Surveyor, where he served for six years.
