Rock Creek School District No. 28
An agreement was made the 20th day of July
1874, between W.E. Partridge of Bazaar township,
Chase County, Kansas and the School Board of
District No. 28 to purchase one acre of land for
one dollar, located on the northwest corner of the
southwest quarter of section one (1) Township
twenty-one (21) The original Warranty
Deed, witnessed 8/06/1874 and recorded 8/12,/
1874 by Register of Deeds.
A school was erected on this site, and the
first teacher was Minnie Ellis.
A picture of Rock Creek School, District No.
28, was taken by Miss Mabel Coverdill, who was
the teacher in 1915.
The children attending this school
in 1922, 50 years ago are: Ruth Burns,
Anna Miser, Freda Matison, Robert Burns, Earl
Yeager, James Yeager, Bruce Stewart, George H.
Miser. Myrel Matison, Catherine Yeager, Sam E. Miser, James Burns, Lloyd McCabe. Teacher
1922: Miss Edith Fillmore.
The old school burned down and a new school
was built and continued until about 1948. I bought
the building and remodeled it December 1949.

NOTE: The last teacher was Bruga M. Buxton in
1943-44. Co. Supt. records show that on April 14,
1949 Geo. Gutsch, Sheriff, sold the school building and site, at public auction as required by law.
