Vinson, Ida
Mrs. Ida Way Vinson was born on Middle Creek
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.G. Way. She has one
sister Mrs. Maude Park, who makes her home with
Mrs. Vinson, and one brother, James Way of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.
Mrs. Vinson attended grade school at the Union
School, high school at Cottonwood Falls and college
at the Teacher's College of Emporia.
Mrs. Vinson taught school in Chase County for
16 years, her first school being the Forest Hill
school. Later she taught the Schwilling School.
She married Thomas Vinson and they were the
parents of two children, Marjorie and Thomas.
Later she taught school again, at Matfield
Green and her last school was the Crocker School.
She became Chase County Superintendent of
Schools, being elected to the office in the fall of
1937 and taking office in 1938. She continued in
this office as long as Chase County maintained the
office of County Superintendent. At this time she
had served faithfully and efficiently for 31 years.
While in office she was an outstanding person in
the field of Teacher's Education in this part of
the state as well as in.the county.
Since 1969 she has continued to effectually
use her talents to help others and go the `second
mile'.
She gives many hours doing secretarial work
for the United Methodist Church. She has been
Church School secretary for many years and has
been absent from her church services very few times
in all these years.
She has also been very active in many clubs,
some of them being, Kansas Author's Club, Woman's
Society of Christian Service, Chase County His
torical Society, County Senior Citizen's Club, and
many others.
The people of Chase County and Cottonwood
Falls especially are very grateful to and for Ida
Vinson and consider her an outstanding citizen of
Chase County.
