Butler, Ida Jean

Ida Jean Butler, 90, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cottonwood Falls, Funeral services were Friday, April 12, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home. The Rev. John Hastings officiated. Inurnment will be at a later date in Elmdale Cemetery, Elmdale.

Ida Jean Shaft, the daughter of John and Mary Flowers Shaft, was born March 21, 1912, in Clements. She and Leo Butler were married and lived in Ness City for over 25 years before moving to Emporia and Strong City. He preceded her in death in 1981.

Mrs. Butler was a Registered Nurse and operated her own nursing home in Florence. She later owned and operated restaurants in Ness City. She was a member of the former Elmdale Christian church and American Legion Post @1890.

She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Shaft and one sister Josephine Hammans. Memorial contributions to Hand-in-Hands Hospice may be sent to 1201 West 12th Ave., Suite 302, Emporia. Ks 66801 or in care of the funeral home.
