Finuf, William Boyd

William Boyd Finuf, 82, formerly of Strong City, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the Flint Hills Care Center in Emporia.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 2, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the BrownBennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. John Hastings of the Strong City United Methodist Church will officiate. A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home following the service. A Military Graveside Service will be conducted by a Fort Riley Honor Guard at the Strong City Cemetery.

William Boyd Finuf, the son of Ivan F. and Mae O'Daniel Finuf, was born Nov. 4, 1922, at Saffordville. He and Ester Lee Ballew were married on Sept. 27, 1943, in Strong City. He graduated from high school and then attended the Salt City Business College in Hutchinson for one year. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was a meat cutter at Sampson's Grocery Store, did maintenance work at the Strong City Water Plant and was an office manager for Fanestil's. He was also a dispatcher for the Chase County Sheriff's Office for nine years.

He was a member of the Strong City United Methodist Church, a 50-year member and past Master of the Zeredatha Masonic Lodge A.M. & A.F. #80 and a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 25. He was a 4-H woodworking leader, coached "Little League" baseball and enjoyed umpiring ball games.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Lee of Emporia; one son, Robert F. Finuf of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Patricia L. Schalla of Cottonwood Falls and Linda J. Kieffaber of Emporia; one sister, Wilma Moody of Burlingame; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, William Thomas Finuf.

Memorial contributions to the Strong City United Methodist Church and Hand-In-Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS. 66845.
