Gardner, Howard

Howard Gardner, a former resident of Chase County, died Sunday in his home in Lakin.

Funeral services will be at 9 a. m. Thursday in the Davis Funeral Home in Lakin and graveside services will, be at 1:30 p. m. Friday in the Elmdale Cemetery. The Elmdale services will be conducted, by the Rev Robert DeYoe, pastor of the United Methodist Church in. Strong City. The Brown-Bennett Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gardner was a retired farmer and railroad employee. The son of Albert and Manda Beverlin Gardner, he was born Feb. lst 1891, in Minden, Neb.

He is survived by his wife, Winnie Satterle Gardner of the home; one son; Francis, of Wichita; ;two daughters, Lucille Wiltshire, Beaverton, Ore., and Maxine Dunkel, Pueblo, Colo.; two brothers, Floyd, of Cottonwood Falls, and Henry, of Portland,, Ore., 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

H E Gardner Dies of Apparent Heart Attack

Funeral service for H E (Pop) Gardner will be held this morning Thursday at 9 o’clock at the United Presbyterian church in Lakin with Rev Jack Nash officiating. Graveside services will be in Elmdale, Kansas, Friday at 1:30pm. Mr Gardner died Sunday night at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Howard E Gardner was born February 1, 1891 at Minden, Nebraska, He came to Kansas as a small child with his family living in Chase County, near Clements, Kansas.

He was united in marriage with Leona Pyle in 1916. To this union was born four children, one daughter Shirley Deane, who died in infancy. Mrs Gardner died in 1943. He came to Lakin in 1945 and had lived here since. He was a Retired carpenter. He married Winnie Satterlee in 1951.

Survivors include the widow of the home, a son, Francis of Wichita; Two daughters, Mrs Lucille Wiltshire, Beaverton, Oregon and Mrs Maxine Dunkel, Pueblo, Colo.; and two brothers, Henry of Portland, Oregon, and Floyd of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
