Leal, Phyllis

Phyllis Leal, 75, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Strong City, with Celebrant, Father Nicholas Voelker. Rosary was recited Wednesday, at 7 p.m., at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, north of Strong City.

Phyllis Galvan, the daughter of Manual and Maria Fabian Galvan, was born Nov. 23, 1928, in Moline. She married Manuel Lopez Leal on Oct. 22, 1950, at Moline. He died Dec. 6, 2000.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

She is survived by a son, John Leal of Newton; a daughter, Juanita M. Leal of Emporia; three brothers, Joe Galvan of Howard, Charles Galvan of New Lenox, Ill. and David Galvan of Chicago, Ill.; seven sisters, Josephine Rodriques and Vera Gonzales of Chicago, Ill., Frances Galvan of Plainfield, Ill., Delores Ramirez of Baltimore, Md., Patricia Galvan of Cicero, Ill., Esther Pogue of Boise, Idaho and Rosemary Galvan of Moline; three granddaughters; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a infant child, her husband; her parents, three brothers, Lawrence Paul, Sr., and Alex Galvan; and two sisters, Manuela Reyes and Antonia Hernandez.

Memorials to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research or St. Jude's Children Hospital may be sent in care of Brown- Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
