Just four months ago, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Speer; who were called to Wichita last Friday, were called to Dexter, New Mexico on a similar mission. Another sister, Mrs. W. L. Branch, who was also a former resident of this county was taken ill and a short time later died. The remains accompanied by Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Speer were brought to this place for burial. In four short months, two of the four Sisters have passed away and their deaths coming so close together made it sad indeed for Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Speer.
Death of Mrs. John Martin
Mrs. John Martin, the sister of Mrs. W. P. Evans of this city and Mrs. S M Speer of South Fork, died at Wichita, Sunday,
Feb 12th, 1911. Mrs. Martin's home was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and she has been ill about three weeks previous to her death. Last week, she was taken to Wichita for medical treatment but her condition rapidly grew worse and death came Sunday morning. Both Mrs Evans and Mrs Speer were with their sister when the end came.
The body, accompanied by Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Speer and their two brothers, W O Jones, of Horton, Kansas, and L D Jones of Wakita, Oklahoma arrived from Wichita on the Santa Fe train, No. 6, Monday afternoon. The funeral was held at 1:30 at the Evans home in this city this afternoon, after which burial was made in the Miller Cemetery in South Fork. Rev. O C. Bronston preached the sermon and the funeral was attended by many from Elinor and the surrounding neighborhood where Mr. and Mrs Martin formerly lived and are widely known.
Mrs. Martin was born at Hardin, Iowa, May 9th 1857. When twelve years of age she with her parents moved to Missouri and in 1878 came to Kansas. A year later she was married to Jon Martin. Mr and Mrs Martin lived at Elinor until two years ago when they moved to Oklahomal.
Mr and Mrs Martin are the parents of three children, Orville of Rialto, California, William of Grand Island, Nebraska and Mrs Fannie Cook of Horton, Kansas, all of whom are living. Besides her husband and her sisters, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Speer, Mrs. Martin is survived by three brothers who are W O Jones, Horton, Kansas; L D Jones of Wakita, Oklahoma and Jesse Jones of Washington state.
Mrs Martin was converted and became a member of the Methodist Church of Los Vegas, New Mexico, twenty years ago and she has reained true to that faith.
Among the relatives from a distance who were here to attend the funeral were W O Jones of Horton, Kansas; L D Jones of Wakita, Oklahoma; Mrs. Lulu Bean of Hutchinson, Kansas; Mrs Fannie Cook of Horton, Kansas and William Branch of Dexter, New Mexico.
Mrs. Martin's death has brought sorrow to her many friends and neighbors in this county, who extend to the bereaved husband, children and relatives their heartfelt sympathy.

Arrives To Find Wife Dead And Buried
John Martin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, the, husband of Mrs. Martin who wits buried here last Tuesday arrived in Cottonwood Falls Thursday afternoon. Mr. Martin last saw his wife a week ago Friday. Since that time he has been journeying overland from Tulsa to Wichita where his wife had been for medical treatment and while he journeyed, his wife has died, has been buried and the relatives who came from Oklahoma, New Mexico and Kansas for the funeral have all departed again for their homes.
The first telegram which Mr. Martin received telling him of his wife's death and burial here was in Arkansas City. The message was sent there to the post-master to he delivered to him as it was known Arkansas City was an his route and he would stop there for Mail, Upon receipt of the message, Mr. Martin left his team and took the train for this city, arriving here Thursday afternoon, two days after the burial of his wife had taken place,
Last Friday , a week ago, Mrs. Martin was sent to a Wichita hospital. Her husband started from Tulsa the same morning with a team and wagon, intending to drive through. Mrs. Martin's two sisters, Mrs. S. M. Speer and Mrs. W. P. Evan', of this piece, were notified of her serious illness at Wichita and reached Wichita a short time before her death. Telegrams sent to the husband failed to reach him and as the could not be located, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Speer brought the body of their dead sister to this place for burial.
