Watchous, Elsie Naomi Perkins

Mrs. Elsie Watchous, wife of Elmer Watchous, died at a hospital in Norton, Kansas, Wednesday, January 31, following an illness of many months. Mrs. Watchous had suffered from tuberculoais and had been an invalid for nearly a year.

The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock from the high school building at Matfield Green, Sunday afternoon. Rev, E. M. Scott, pastor of the Presbyterian church of this city, preached the sermon. Interment was in the Matfield Green cemetery. The pallbearers were Everet and Floydri Caress, George Carpenter, Don Carnine, Ralph Mailen, and Adrian Martin.

The following obituary was read at the funeral: "Elsie Naomi Perkins was born in Matfield Green, April 16, 1904, and departed this life Wednesday, January 31, 1934, at Norton, Kansas, at the age of 29 years, nine months, and 15 days. Her education was completed in the grade school at Matfield Green and the high schools at Cottonwood Falls and Matfield Green. She was a member of the Christian church.

"She was united in marriage to John Elmer Watchous on April 17, 1923. To this union two children were born, Joy Ruth and Robert Wayne, age 10 and eight, respectively.

In addition to her husband and children, she leaves to mourn her passing her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Perkins, of Matfleld Green; four sisters and one brother as follows: Mrs. Laura Smith, of Plymouth, Kansas; Mrs. Ines Parks, of Strong City; Mrs. Ruth Banks, of Matrield Green; Mrs. Edith Conner, of Kansas City, Mo.; Leonard Perkins of Matfield Green. She also leaves a host of friends and acquaintancee.

With those who knew Elsie intimately will linger the memory of her quiet, patient, loving disposition. While never robust in health, she always was extremely interested in her surroundings, ambitious for the future and devoted to her family. She passed through her final illness fortified with the blessed knowledge of an eternal life beyond the grave. This earth is left richer and better for her short life here."
