Watchous, Floyd

Accident Is Fatal To Floyd Watchous

Young Cottonwood Falls Salesman, Dies At Eskridge, Saturday Afternoon.

Floyd "Stub" Watchous, 29, of Cottonwood Falls, was fatally injured Saturday afternoon nine miles south of Eskridge when his car and a truck collided near the crest of a hill. Mr. Watchous was rushed to Eskridge for treatment, but he died about 20 minutes after reaching there.

Mr, Watchous was on his way hone from Topeka when the accident occurred. He was driving on No. 11, which was somewhat muddy, when he saw the approaching truck. Both cars were in a rut in the road and the drivers were unable to avert a collision. Mr. Watchous's neck and jaw were broken and he suffered other bruises about the head. A leg was broken, also. The driver of the truck wasnot injured.

Funeral services for Mr. Watchous were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Methodist church at Cottonwood Fulls and interment was in Prairie Grove cemetery. The Rev. E. E. Sutterlee conducted the services. Pallbearers were Wallace Evans, Frank Caddie, Jr., Edward Boles, Emery Oldham, Vernon Riggs, and Robert Leeder.

Floyd Vernon Watchous was born at Matfield Green, Kans., July 28 1906 and passed away at Eskridge, October 26, 1935, at the age of 29 years, 2 months and 29 days.

Floyd attended the grade and high schools at Matfield Green and was graduated from the high school there and later was graduated from the Santa Fe Telegraphers School in Topeka. lle worked as a telegraph operator for the Santa Fe and New York Central railroads for six years and for the past five years had been employed as an oil salesman, traveling in Kansas. He was employed by the D A Lubricant Company of Indianapolis, Ind., at the time of his death. On October 7, 1928, he was married at Tulsa, Okla., to Miss Alveria Nichols of South Ononadga, N. Y., and to this union three children were born. One daughter, Lk:lents Jean, died in December, 1932. Mr. Watehaus is survived by his wife, one daughter, Barbara Marie, and one son, Vernon Gilbert; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Watchous, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Judd, all of Cottonwood Falls; and four brothers, Earl F. of Corppus Christi, Tex., John Elmer of Stafford, Henry L. of Oskaloosa, and Clarence of Strong City.
