Winters, Byron "Max"

Byron "Max" Winters, age 81, of Clearwater, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Springview Manor, Inc. in Conway Springs, Kan.

He was born on Sept. 13, 1923, at Halstead to Glenn and Mary (McCurdy) Winters. He received his grade school education from a country school and graduated from Sedgwick County High School. He was a WWII Veteran. Max worked public relations for numerous truck lines including Jones Truck Line, Professional Cargo, Price Truck Line and Santa Fe Transportation Trucking Company. He retired Aug. 6, 2001.

On June 9, 1946. he married Vivian Garrell. They lived in Wichita, then Topeka, and moved back to Wichita. She preceded him in death in 1976.

On Dec. 27, 1986, he married Lois Nadine Masur.

He was a member of the Clearwater United Methodist Church as well as a member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Wichita. He was a long-time member of the Traffic Club.

Funeral services were held Feb. 11 at Clearwater United Methodist Church. Interment was in Old Mission-Wichita Park Cemetery in Wichita. Rev. William L. Ripley officiated the services. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers James "Bill" Winters and Glenn Winters.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; daughter, Ann North of Cottonwood Falls; stepdaughters, Patricia Domnanish of Topeka and Penny Johnsosn of Clearwater; sister, Joann Hutchens of Bella Vista, Ark; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Parkinson's Educational Program of. Wichita; 3640 S. Eisenhower, Wichita, KS 67215; and Clearwater Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 453, Clearwater, KS 67026. Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Clearwater was in charge of services.
