Young, Judge
DEATH OF JUDGE YOUNG
Judge Young, one of our most highly respected citizen, died at his late residence in this city between 5 and 6 o'clock last Tuesday evening in the 67th year of his age. He had been in poor health for a year or more, from which he would occassionally rally slightly, but his friends and family realized that he was failing rapidly and feared that his days were few.
During the last few weeks he sank rapidly and although at times suffering terribly, he died apparently free from pain and with a peachful smile upon his lips. He had full control of his faculties to the last, and a few hours previous to his death he consulted with his son-in-law, S A Breese, on business matters. He leaves a widow and two daughters, Mrs. J McKerr and Mrs. S A Breese in this city, with whom the entire community mingles its sorrow in their bereavement.
As a citizen, no one would go further, work harder, or contribute more, according to his means, to assist any movement calculated to advance the material or moral interests of the community in which he resided, and his loss as an enterprising citizen is grealy deplored.
The deceased was born in Rush county, Indiana, Dec 11 1823, and was married to M. E. Parker, at Richland, Indiana, Oct 09, 1844. In the spring of 1845 he moved to Iowa located in Washington county, where for a short time, he engaged in farming. In 1846 he joined the Methodist church. During his residence in Iowa he occupied the position of County Judge for three terms--six years. This office was a most responsible one, the duties including at that time, the work performed by the probate judge, county attorney and county commissioners of the county.
In the spring of 1871, he moved to Plymouth, Lyon county, Kansas, where he resided until the summer of 1874, when he moved to this city and engaged in the practice of law, and was elected county attorney in 1882.
He was a man of strong feeling, and in no way was this shown more than in his devotion to his family. Probably there never lived a more devoted husband and father, and the tender care with which he surrounded his wife was always a touching characteristic.
The funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
