ELLIOTTS & MOBLEYS Thu Sep 29, 2005
I am doing family research on the ancestors of Sylvester Dunlap Elliott (1874-1958) and his wife Mona Jacobs Martin Elliott (1881-1971), buried in Riley Memorial Cemetery) who were my grandparents.

On S.D.'s mother's side, I have interest in the Mobley family, because S.D.'s mother was Mattie Elizabeth Mobley Elliott whose brother S.D. Mobley is buried at Riley Memorial too, along with his wife and family.

I have information and some documentation concerning the Elliotts and Mobleys back several previous generations (IN, KY, PA) and also concerning my grandmother Mona's Jacobs and Heath ancestry in TX, MS, and TN. I would enjoy being in touch with others having interest in these lines.

GRIFFITH, Joseph Wed May 25, 2005
Joseph Griffith was in Scott County, Kansas in 1885. He was introduced to the founder of Scott City in 1885. C. J. (Buffalo) Jones told Marie E. DeGeer, and her daughter, Ida Eastman, that Mr. Griffith and his friend would protect them, if they needed any help in Scott County.

He was listed in the 1895 census with his wife C. (Caroline) and daughter N. (Nellie). I don't know where he and Caroline were married. In 1893 he was nominated for county Clerk in Scott County.
I was curious who the B. F. Griffith was and if he was related to Joseph Griffith. B. F. Griffith was the first register of deeds in Scott County, KS. He died while in office, Sept. of 1885. I couldn't find his grave site in Scott County (or the grave of Joseph Griffith). So, I started looking for them and found Joseph in Chautauqua County. Joseph & Caroline are buried there. Their daughter married W. Frank Pile in 1915 in Chautauqua County.
The reason for this posting is to help someone in their search of Joseph Griffith family history. Maybe the family didn't know they lived in Scott County, KS during the beginning of the county & county seat, Scott City.

WALKER - FRIEDEL / FREIDEL, Ralph Tue Aug 23, 2005
My grandfather was adopted in Kansas from an Orphan Train by Elizabeth (Betsy) Walker. She also had a son named William Andrew Walker who was born Mar 18, 1878 in KS. Her husband David Scott Walker left her shortly after William turned the age of two. They are listed in the 1880 census in Washington Twp, Chautauqua Co. After David left Elizabeth she adopted my grandfather around 1890, and changed his name to Ralph Walker. His name before adoption is unknown but in the 1895 census she had a son named Ralph Fedral, and 5 years later he was listed as Rulolf Walker, and 5 years later as Ralph Walker. I believe that his birth name may have been Rulolf Fedral or given a census taker that couldn't spell, Rudolph Friedel or Freidel. My grandfather was born in New York City between 1883 to 1886. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

YOUNG, William R. Mon Dec 12, 2005
Hoping descendants of William R. YOUNG Sr. or William R. YOUNG Jr. may still be around to shed light upon William R.'s life to me. Dale Fredric Kirk's wife Lillian had William R. YOUNG's name in her address book as living in Giltner, NE. I am a YOUNG descendant, also. They roamed IL, IA, NE, MO, KS, OK, and AR--some in TN, AL, VA, NC.

Joy Kirk
James Franklin Kirk 1907 KS-1962 OK
Cora May YOUNG (1882 Ne- 1947 OK) + James E. A. KIRK
Joseph R. YOUNG (1847 AR- ?) + Phebe Jane HURST (1854 IA- ?)
Alphonso YOUNG (1805 TN - ?) + Nancy Robinson (1806 TN- ?)

George W. YOUNG was in my mother's address book as living in Arkadelphia AR and was claimed as the father of Cora May YOUNG that I have since found to be incorrect.

Alphonso was of the Mormon faith, but did not go to Utah. He did not have multiple wives that I know of.

Cora May YOUNG's children: Maude, Roy, Frank, Joseph Alfred, Gertrude, Glenard, Leonard Alphonso Raymond Kirk, Dale Fredric, Elmon, and Amos--all born in Columbus, KS, Cherokee Co.

Their dad James E. A. KIRK was killed in a powder explosion in Turck, KS in 1919. The family then moved to Skiatook, Osage Co. OK. Later Cora May YOUNG KIRK married Gene Warner and moved to Springfield, MO.

Joseph R. & Phebe Jane Hurst YOUNG's children: William A. (1871 NE) , George Edward (1873 NE), Barnard (Barney) (1880 MO), Cora May (1882 NE), Adah (1884 NE), and Aley (1888 NE) YOUNG.

I would love to link up with some kin and compare notes.
