I am researching the family of John Wesley Branscomb (also Branscum and Branscom), a hatter, who moved his family from Wood Co., TX to Cherokee Co., KS (Baxter Springs)around 1870. Children with known contacts to Cherokee Co., KS include: William B. "Barney" Branscum, a miner who lived in Galena; James Harrison Branscum, who ran away from home to Indian Territory after a fight with his step mother; Rebecca A. Branscomb, who married Luther Van Fossen in 1871; and possibly Amanda Branscomb, who married David W. Harris in 1883. I am descended from Nancy Elizabeth "Betty" Branscomb, the oldest child in this family, who to my knowledge never lived in Cherokee Co. She married Taylor Anderson in 1868 and lived in Indian Territory.

Searching for the Surname of the husband and wife, killed in a train-car crash in Galena, Ks. in the mid to late 40's. Children were adopted by a family named Hopkins. One of the children's name was Gaylene. There were 2 girls and a boy.

I went to Galena High school (no longer standing) with Roy Hopkins, older brother of Gaylene Hopkins. I believe he died in a car accident in the late 1950's. Gaylene was a couple of years younger than Roy. There are pictures of Roy and Gaylene in the high school annuals.

Lasley WISE 1895 KS Census
I recently found the family of Sylvester J. WISE and Hattie LASLEY living in Sheridan Twp., Cherokee Co., KS. In this household there was a 70 yo male listed as Lasley WISE, born in OH. I believe this to be Sylvester's father. As a couple of the family are listed by their middle name, this Lasley could also be listed as such. I know that the Lasley family migrated PA>OH>IA>KS, but have yet to find any Wise families nearby. Since Sylvester was born in IN, the Wises at least must have migrated OH>IN>KS. If you have any information, please drop me a line.
