John H. Scott/Mary M. Coonrod, Cherokee Co. KS
Looking for ancestors/siblings/descendants of John H. (prob. Hardin) Scott and Mary Mountwillow Coonrod

John H. Scott joined Co. C, 3rd Illinois Calvary, formed in Cass Co. IL and served in the Union Army. After the Civil War he settled in Pleasant Twp., Cherokee County, KS with his mother in 1866. Mother's name may have been Mary. He returned to Illinois to marry Mary Mountwillow Coonrod of Greene/Macoupin Co, IL in 1868 when she was about 17. Her father was Squire Coonrod.

John and Mary returned to Cherokee Co. KS, raised a family, and eventually settled in Columbus KS. My grandmother Etta M. Scott was one of their children.

Any info on ancestors/siblings/descendants will be greatly appreciated.

Juli,

There is a FHL Film that has it indexed. I ordered it once.

If you have never been there, it is a really sad sight. It is in the corner of a field and a dead end road. Cherry Creek floods it often so the graves on the edge over looking the river are in sorry shape. My great grandma is buried there Mary Manar. Her daughter and son in law were also there, but they were moved over to McKee. The grass hasn't been mowed in a while. I do know there are some Spicklemier's buried there.

If you get Gordon's death certificate, it will tell you where he was buried.
