Does anyone have any information on the Lucky Jewel and Zinc Mining Company located 2 1/2 miles northwest of Treece, KS? I am looking for history of this company back in the 1920's. My g grandfather, Floyd Arthur Cox was employed there as a ground man on the day shift. On the night of Nov. 29, 1920 he was sitting in the "dog house" there with the other miners. They were playing cards. He was shot to death by bandits who came in to rob the men. Maybe someone has info on this. Would love to hear from you.

I am looking for info on Edgar Orson COUSE and his family that moved to KS from Broome Co, NY in the late 1870's.

Edgar was born in Broome Co, NY, in May 1847; mrd. Hellen Samantha OLIVER (b. Oct 1848) about 1866. They had seven children: Alice Etta, b. 24 Mar 1868; Hattie Belle, b. 28 Sep 1869; Lucy Jane, b. 31 Jul 1871; Mabel; Della, b. Aug 1879; Flora, b. Jan 1881; & Calvin, b. 25 May 1884.

The three older girls were all married in Lincoln, KS, so the family must have moved to Lincoln from NY and then on to Cherokee Co. At least the last three children were born in KS.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

David

Seeking descendants of Isaac Haley Wright and wife Mary Jane Oxley whose family appears on the 1880 U.S. Census of Cherokee County. They were married in 1850 in Williamson County, Texas. In their household in 1880 were the following Wrights:
Haley, 17m, b. Texas
Enoch, 15m, b. Texas
Sarah, 14f, b. Texas
Ellen, 10f, b. Texas
Evart, 9m, b. Texas (probably Everett)
Mary, 4f, b. Texas
Dick, 2m, b. Texas
Also, Isaac Bener, 43m, b. Illinois
I have a lot of info on the Oxley family and a photograph of Isaac Haley Wright and Mary Jane Oxley Wright. I would like to find their dates of death and places of burial. In Texas, Isaac H. Wright was a Methodist minister but is listed as a farmer in 1880 Cherokee Co. Census.

Topic: Genealogy Records of Clara Wells, Riverton
From: Beverly Clark rclark5@elp.rr.com
Date: Tuesday, June 06, 2000 11:10 AM

Does anyone know what happened to the vast amount of genealogical records on the surnames of BOWMAN, STEPHENS, WARREN, DU BOIS, HITE, and who knows how many others, accumulated by Clara and Don Wells who lived south of the old Post Office in Riverton. She had years of research stored in her basement. I hope that it was removed before the flood.

Also, does anyone know if the Galena Public Library has gone on-line with its genealogy?

Your help is appreciated.

please forgive my amature appearance here.
I am looking for information on how to find the birth record of my mother. She was born May 30, 1922 I believe in Weir. I am not sure if there would be a record of it in the local records. Her parents were Clarence Franklin Siron and Minnie Ethel Smith.

Any Ideas would be great fully appreciated.

Kansas began keeping birth and death records in July 1911. Go to the following website to get information and print out an application:

http://www.kdhe.state.ks.us/vital/

Prior to that time counties kept birth and death records, though in Cherokee County the book for deaths 1905 - 1911 is missing from the court house. Cherokee County began keeping birth and death records in 1896, but it was only if someone turned in the information to the county court house.

The Cherokee County Kansas Genealogical Society will do research for a donation to the society of $7.50 per hour and 25 cents per copy of anything sent. You can contact them at cckghs@columbus-ks.com or mail to CCKG-HS, P. O. Box 33, Columbus, KS 66725.
