I am looking for help in finding guardianship info for my gr-grandfather, Thomas Emory Scott. He was twelve years old in 1870, and lost his father, Neal Scott, while "up north" on a camping trip in the spring. A blizzard struck, and Neal was killed. Thomas returned to Pittsburg by l880, where he worked in a bank. His father was a wagonmaker, and had a business, plus several properties in Pittsburg. Thomas, who often went by Emory, paid regular visits to his guardian, and returned with monies. Bettie Cholakian

Neal Scott was in McGee Couty in 1860, and in Crawford County in 1870. His son was Thomas Emory Scott. During Easter Break from school, Neal took the 12-year-old Thomas "up there" to a cabin for a camping trip. They were caught in the blizzard, but ran out of firewood. The family story is that Neal left Thomas in the cabin on the first day after the blizzard ended, telling him to wait until he returned. Three days later Thomas found his father dead, where a tree had fallen on him. He was taken care of, and apparently stayed "up north" until 1880, when he returned to Crawford County. We believe the cabin was in Kansas. Is there a list somewhere of those who died in the Blizzard of 1873?
