Would anyone be able to tell me if there were any other John families in the 1900-1910 census for Cherokee County.

We believe David John may have had a brother living close by.

Also would anyone know if it is able to view Cherokee cemetery listings on line.

Topic: Fred BALDWIN of Columbus, KS
From: Marti Swanson cygnetnest@aol.com
Date: Sunday, February 10, 2002 11:46 AM

John M Baldwin, b about 1835, Montgomery Co, IN, grandfather of Fred Baldwin of Columbus

John M BALDWIN was born about 1835 in Montgomery Co, IN, the oldest of 12 children of William Crooks & Cyrena Dalton Baldwin. He was 15 in the 1850 Montgomery Co, IN, census. The William Crooks-Cyrena Dalton Baldwin family left IN in 1852, and they were living in Greene Co, IL, by 1860, at which time son John was no longer living with his parents.

There was a John M Baldwin who married Eliza (or Uphaney or Euphrana) MARTIN 17 May 1854 in Greene Co, IL; she was born about 1837 in IL. The John M married to Eliza was age 25 and born in IN in the 1860 Greene Co, IL, census. John-Eliza had a daughter, Maranda, 5, in that census. They were also living next dwelling (dwelling 111) to the George Shanklin family (dwelling 110); Sarah Shanklin, GeorgeÕs wife, was the sister of William Crooks Baldwin. While I cannot be sure that this is the ÒrightÓ John M Baldwin, the known facts--age, place of birth, and proximity to known relatives--fit.

Family oral history says John M had a son Alex (wife Susan, living in San Diego, CA) and grandsons John of Burbank, CA, and FRED of Columbus, KS.

John M was living in San Diego, CA, when his brother William A Baldwin died in 1911. However, he must have died prior to the 1917 death of another brother, Francis Marion Baldwin; for he is not mentioned in that obituary.

I would appreciated being contacted about any additional info on John M Baldwin and his descendants. I have a great deal of information on his parents, grandparents, siblings, etc., and am quite willing to share.

Ma
