Topic: Scout Cabin at Schermerhorn Park

I am looking for information on the scout cabin at the top of the hill in Schermerhorn park just south of Galena, KS. Who built it? Many people think that it was built by W.P.A. But that doesn't seem to be possible because it was there before W.P.A. was formed. They did do the work on the terracing walls that run through out the park but they have no record of the cabin. Did the city build it? Know one seems to know for sure. I would love to have original blueprints or old photos. Where could I find such things. The Galena genealogy doesn't have anything like that. Help!

I am researching my husband's family of Fields, Rawles and Wells. His 2nd great grandfather was John (James) Rawles who married Mary Jane Fields about 1851. It is thought that John died in Cherokee County, Kansas between 1861 and 1865. Their daughter Mary Ellen Fields is thought to have been born in Galena, Kanasas also. Further, my husband's great aunt Daisey Wells Price stated in her affadavit for membership in the Cherokee Tribe that she was born in 1878 in Galena,Kansas.I found a query from in 1999 on the Cherokee County Web Page that states Frank Rawles married Augusta Shaw in Galena, Kansas. John's son Frank married a woman by the name of Augusta, so likely this is the same person. I have no information on John Rawles birthplace or his parents. Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Barbara Hale Reynolds
