SMITH.

Andrew F. Smith was born in Rock Bridge county, Virginia, November 9, 1838, and died in Evans, Colo., September 4, 1915, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 26 days.

In 1857 he removed with his parents to what was later W. Va., Harrison Co.

On the 9th day of Jan., 1862, he with a younger brother, enlisted in Co. D, 10th W. Va. volunteer infantry, and served through the war, being honorably discharged on the 16th day of March, 1865, having served 3 years, 2 months and 7 days. He was married to Lydia Smith Nov. 6, 1866, and to this union were born three boys, Dexter of Burns, Kan.; Weightman, of Evans, Colo., and Bertie, of Ontario, Cal. He was converted in 1866 and united with the M. E. church living a faithful Christian life until called from the church militant to the church triumphant.

He leaves to mourn his loss one brother, two sisters, eight grandchildren and a host of friends, his wife having preceded him on Dec. 3, 1908.

His sister, Mrs. Mary Ratliff, of Decatur, Ill. and his nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Wise, also of Decatur, were with him on a month’s visit a short while before his death. His sons, Dexter and Weightman, were with him at the time of his death and accompanied the body to Burns, Kan., where a funeral service was held in the Methodist church and where the body was laid to rest to await the resurrection of the saints. Rev. Wm. M. Bunyan, a former pastor of the deceased, preached the funeral services.

Bro. Smith, commonly known among his friends as “Uncle Andy,” lived a good life and died praising the Lord who brought him off “more the conquorer.” ---H. J. D.
