B.F. NYE DIES IN CALIFORNIA

WIDOW WILL BRING BODY HOME FOR BURIAL.

Mr. Nye settled in Allen County at Early Date and Had Lived in Chanute Thirty Years.

B. F. Nye, a pioneer settler in this vicinity, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jesse Conkey, in Orsi, Cal., at 8:15 o'clock last night of heart trouble. Mrs. Nye, who accompanied him to California, will bring the body here for burial. The funeral party is expected to arrive Tuesday.

Mr. Nye had been a resident of this vicinity for many years. He came to Kansas from Illinois and first settled in Allen county between this city and Humboldt. He moved to Chanute more than thirty years ago and had made his home in this city ever since.

He and his wife left here shortly before Christmas to visit their daughter during the winter.

Mr. Nye was a soldier for the union in the Civil war, serving in Company I, 146th Illinois infantry. His family name was "Nigh," but when he enlisted the enrolling officer wrote it "Nye" and he adopted the spelling.

He was a member of the United Workmen and was the plaintiff in the friendly suit brought by the order a few years ago to test the legality of the amendment to the by-laws permitting the order to return to aged members the money they had paid for assessments.

Mr. Nye had been a justice of the peace here and also served several terms as constable. He and his wife were the parents of three children, a son and two daughters, of whom the daughter in California is the only one now living.
