CHAS. GOODKNIGHT

DIES SUDDENLY.

Chas. Goodknight, another of the old soldiers and an old settler of Neodesha, died suddenly at his home on South Fourth street last night, of heart failure, aged 66 years and 7 days.

He had not been sick, though was a little under the weather.  The writer of this was talking with him up town yesterday about his saw mill business and he remarked that he would saw out a great many oil derrick timbers yet, even if the oil field was on the decline.

There was no struggle and he did not suffer.  He went to bed and died soon after, about 11 o'clock.

Charles Henry Goodknight was born in Bartholomew county, Indiana, moved from there to Iowa, and at the breaking out of the war came to Kansas and enlisted in Co. C, 15th Kansas Cavalry, serving until the close of the war.  Mr. Goodknight lived in different places in Kansas but most of the time since the war has lived in Neodesha.  He leaves a wife and nine children.

The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon from the residence at 2 o'clock.  Burial in city cemetery, in charge of G. A. R. post.
