Cornelius Stukey

  This community was saddened Saturday night by the announcement that Cornelius H. Stukey had died at the home of A. B. Stukey near Kyle.

  He was born May 14, 1835, near Delphos, Ohio and died January 20, 1917, aged 81 years, 8 months and 6 days.

  He was married to Magdalina Shobe in 1856 and to this union three children were born, A. B. Stukey of Gridley, Mrs. Emma Porter of Kincaid and one child who died in infancy.

  He enlisted in Co. B. 15th Regiment Ohio National Guards September 10, 1864 and was honorably discharged December 15, 1864.

  He united with the U. B. church while a young man and retained his membership till he moved to Kansas in 1870 and took a homestead north of Gridley.  He owed the same property at the time of his death.  After coming to Kansas he joined the M. E. church at Gillett school house.

  He was a kind father, a good husband and an excellent citizen.  He leaves to mourn his loss two children, fifteen grand children and twenty-one great-grand children.

  The funeral services were held at the home of his son, A. B. Stuckey.  Rev. Janssen preached a funeral sermon on the text, “At evening time it shall be light.”  The choir from Wesley Chapel furnished the music and the remains were laid to rest in the Gridley Cemetery.
