George Poland.

  The death of George Poland, an old and respected resident of this community, occurred at his home in the city last Thursday morning.  Mr. Poland had been a resident of Kansas since 1889 and had made Sabetha his home for the past sixteen years.

  On January 11, 1863, he was united in marriage to Catherine Keim, of Addison, Pa.  Five children were born to them, all of whom are living.  They are S. R. Poland, of Cour d’Alene, Idaho; Bert Poland of Hiawatha; Milton Poland of Sabetha; Mrs. Minnie Stewart, of Chicago; Mrs. E. G. Brazier, of Los Angeles, Cal.  All of the children, with the exception of Mrs. Brazier, were present at the funeral of their father.  These with his beloved wife, a brother, Thomas Poland, and a sister, Mrs. Peter Clise, both of Ocean, Md., mourn the loss of a father, a husband and brother, yet mourn not as those who have no hope, but look forward to meeting him again in the home beyond.

  For upwards of fifty years Mr. Poland had been a devoted follower of the Master.  He united with the Baptist church in Sabetha in November, 1912, and has since faithfully kept the covenant.

  Funeral services were held at ten o’clock Sunday morning from the Baptist church.  The church was filled to overflowing with sympathetic friends.  Representatives of the G. A. R. Post, of which Mr. Poland was a member, having served during the civil war with Company C, 67th Pennsylvania regiment, were also present.  S. R. Poland, a son, having been detained enroute from the west, interment was not made until Monday and after the funeral services the remains were taken to the Reinhart undertaking parlors.  Mr. Poland arrived at six o’clock a. m., Monday and burial was made in Sabetha cemetery at ten o’clock.
