Obituary.

George A. Waid was born in Harrison county, Indiana, September 30, 1845, and died at Cherryvale, Kansas, February 17, 1917, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 27 days. The funeral was held from the Christian church, Rev. W. H. Mulvaney preaching the sermon. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

George A. Waid was a veteran of the Civil war, serving the entire duration of the conflict in three enlistments. He was always to be found at his post of duty and rendered faithful and meritorious service to his country. He was promoted to the rank of corporal. He received a final discharge at New Orleans, La, by reason of the close of the war.

He was united in marriage to Mary E. Jean in Washington county, Indiana, Feb. 19, 1870, from which union were born five children.

He was a member of Hackleman Post No. 142, Department of Kansas, Grand Army of the Republic and of the A. F. & A. M. He has held office as a member of the school board member of the city council, constable, township trustee and census enumerator.

His brothers, James B. and William D., both served in the Civil war. His sons served in the Spanish-American war.
