ENGELBRECHT

Henry Englebrecht was born in Germany in 1835. At the age of 18 years he came with his parents to America and settled in Ohio. He enlisted in Co. E, 3rd Ohio Cavalry in September 1861 and served three years and one month in the service of his country. He was married to Louise Dahl in 1866. To this union was born twelve children, two of whom preceded their father in death. Those living are Mrs. Etta Herder, Mrs. Belle Reno, Mrs. Mary Moore, Bertha Englebrecht, Frank, Walter, George and John Englebrecht of Woodson county, Mrs. Rosa Chambers of San Antonio, Texas, and Henry Englebrecht, jr. whose place of residence is to the family not known. He also leaves eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He came to Kansas about the year 1871 and settled in Owl Creek township. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and of the Evangelic church. He died in Yates Center, Kansas December 28, 1913, aged 78 years. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Yates Center December 30, conducted by Elder G. H. Lamb, under the auspices of the Grand Army of the Republic after which the body was buried in Kalida Cemetery. Excellent music was furnished by a mixed quartette composed of J. L. Martin, H. S. Johnson, Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Lee. Thus has passed away another of the early settlers of Woodson County.
