JOHNSON- In Girard, February 6th, 1916, Isaac Newton Johnson, aged 67 years, 1 month, and 9 days.

Isaac Newton Johnson was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, Dec. 28th, 1848.  Died in Girard, Kansas, Feb. 6th, 1916.  He moved from Ohio to Iowa with his parents in 1855 and there grew to manhood.  He served in Co. F 51st Missouri Inf., and was honorably discharged.  In February 22d, 1874, he was married to Martha Jane Lester at Porterville, Kas., who now survives him.  From his union three children were born, Guy Johnson, of Girard; Roy Johnson, of McAlister, Okla; and Mrs. Harry Shafer, of Nara Visa, New Mexico.  He is survived also by three brothers, Jasper, of Bedford, Iowa; Simon, of Gravity, Iowa, and Ruben, of Colorado; and by three sisters, Mrs. Henry Schlichting of Kansas City; Mrs. Edith Letter, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. M. S. Maroney, of Portland, Oregan.

At the age of 21 he was converted and joined the Methodist church and has always tried to live close to the master, but since coming to Girard has never connected himself with any church.  He made a brave fight for life and was always patient, and resigned.  He was a kind and loving father and all his acquaintances were his friends.
