Obituary

  Isaac N. Croxton was born Feb. 5th, 1841, in Carroll county, Ohio, and died Feb. 14, 1911.  He came to Kansas in 1858, being then in his 17th year and settled on a farm near Parker, where he lived about two years when he returned to Ohio, and on August 3, 1862, was united in marriage to Miss Sarah M. Hewitt, to which union were born John A. Croxton, who departed this life at the age of one year, E. J. Croxton, W. L. Croxton of Hevener, Okla., Geo W. Croxton, of La Cygne and I. N. Croxton Jr. of Chicago, Ill.

  On September 1st 1862, he returned to Kansas and lived on his farm near Parker about one year, when he moved to a farm near Fontana.  In 1864 he enlisted in Co. D, 15th Kansas cavalry and served his country until the close of the war.  After the war he moved to Rockville where he engaged in the mercantile business, but later moved to West Point and conducted a dry goods and grocery business.

  He was among the first settlers in La Cygne having located here the next year after the town was founded.  He was elected Mayor of La Cygne for one term, and twice elected sheriff of Linn county.

  Deceased had been in ill health for the past seven years and the end was no surprise to his relatives and friends.

  Funeral services were conducted by the Masonic order on Friday last at the home in this city, after which the remains were laid to rest in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
