Death of Isaiah Brown of Edna.

Isaiah Brown was born in Logan county Ohio, March 4, 1845, and died May 1, 1913. When he was three years old his parents moved from Ohio to Illinois. At the age of 19 he enlisted as a private of captain Phillip Slaughter company B 151st Regiment of Illinois Infantry on the 14 day of February 1865. Discharged from service on the 24th day of February 1866 at Columbus, Georgia. Going back to his old home in Pontoosuc, Ill. immediately after his discharge. Was married to Harriet L. Thomas at Pontoosuc, Hancock county, Ill. June 10, 1866. To this union were born six children, four girls and two boys. Five are living. Della A. Jenney of Columbus, Kansas, Homer E. Brown of Edna, Florence E. Wood of Basco, Ill., Hattie L. Stroup of Altamont and Jessie M. Schreiner of Columbus. Charles C. Brown died at Adrian, Ill. January 7th, 1896, Adrian at that time being their home. Mr. Brown was a residence of Hancock county for about 55 years and had many friends and acquaintances. He had seven sisters and one brother. Three sisters and one brother being dead. Those living are Mrs. Ellen Ervin of Carterville, Mo., Mrs. Lovina Englehard of Pontoosuc, Ill., Mattie Avise of La Junta, Colo. and Mrs. Clara Brown of Salt Lake, Utah. Samuel Brown his father died at Pontoosuc, Ill. April 4, 1891. Rebecca Brown, his mother died four years ago at Pontoosuc, Ill.

Mr. And Mrs. Brown came to Kansas in 1903.

He united with the United Brethern church at Colusa, Ill. in 1884 under the preaching of Rev. J. B. King of Lonax, and lived a devoted christian life until called to a higher mission.

Funeral services were conducted at the home May 3, by Rev. H. I. Bailey of Altamont. Interment in the Altamont cemetery.

Mrs. Brown and children desires to thank their many friends who so kindly assisted them in their sad loss.
