Mr. J. A. Cooper, an old and esteemed resident of the second ward, died about 9 o’clock Thursday evening. He had been in failing health from dropsy for the last two years and has been confined to his home during the summer. His end was peaceful, surrounded by his good wife and numerous relatives. Mr. Cooper was 59 years old and had no children. He was an old civil war veteran and at the time of his death was city marshal of Burlington. He was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge and G. A. R. post. The I. O. O. F. will have charge of the funeral and the G. A. R. Relief Corps and Rebekahs will attend in bodies. The funeral will be held at the family residence at 10 o’clock tomorrow and Rev. B. Robbins will preach.
