J. A. Povenmire of Gridley died at 6 o’clock Tuesday evening, January 4 after an illness extending back about five years, when he had a paralytic stroke. The funeral will probably be held Friday morning from the Methodist church at Gridley. Mr. Povenmire is survived by his wife and three children, all living at Gridley; Mrs. Nora Reed, Harry Povenmire and William Povenmire. Mr. Povenmire, who was generally known as “Tobe”, was born at Allentown, Ohio, October 15, 1843 and was married to Miss Lucinda Berrick March13, 1867. During the war he served in company K 66th Illinois. He enlisted at Lima, Ohio but his company was placed in an Illinois regiment along with several others. He was a member of the G. A. R. Mr. Povenmire was a prominent citizen of the county and had many friends in all sections of the county who regret to learn of his death. He was a man of high character and a good citizen.---Republican.

Mr. Povenmire’s death was a surprise to the community, as but few knew that he was seriously ill. The many friends extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
