Jacob Ward

  Jacob Ward was born July 24, 1834, in Jersey Township, Licking County, Ohio.  He lived with his parents in Ohio until 1853, when he removed to Jasper County, Iowa; from there he came in 1858 to Douglas County, Kansas.

  Mr. Ward served his country throughout the war, in Cos. F. and I 26th, Illinois Infantry and in Company B, 1st regiment United States Volunteers, being mustered out on October 7th, 1864.  Four brothers and the father were in the Union army.

  There is one surviving brother Thomas Ogden Ward, of Douglas County, and one sister, Mrs. Julia Bell of Wellsville, Kansas.

  Mr. Ward was an uncle of the Burnett brothers, and for a number of years has made his home with George Burnett.

  The funeral services were conducted at the George Burnett home on Thursday by Rev. C. E. Hatfield, before a large gathering of relatives and neighbors, with burial in Lyndon cemetery.  The G. A. R. had charge of the services at the grave, performing the last rites according to their custom.

  Before his going, Mr. Ward told those with whom he talked that he was ready and willing to go, and that he had all confidence in a happy reunion in time to come.
